What is a portfolio?
  • Think of an artists’ portfolio where the artist showcases examples of their work. Your portfolio is a similar collection of information that documents your professional experience and qualifications.
  • Your portfolio can include documents, pictures, scanned images, links to websites, and standard information that you would include in a resume.
  • The Critical Portfolio application enables you to collect this information in one place, and then assemble it into one or more portfolios.
4
Why do I need a portfolio?
  • There are many reasons to keep an electronic online portfolio:
    • Portfolios are required by many hospitals to obtain and keep magnet status
    • Portfolios are being required to obtain advanced nursing credentials
    • Portfolios can be shared with prospective employers
    • Natural disasters can damage or destroy paper based information
5
Can I use my information to create more than one portfolio?
  • The answer is ‘Yes’. You will want to create portfolios for specific reasons and objectives. Some examples are:
    • A portfolio including information about your current role can be shared with your manager
    • A portfolio demonstrating the skills and expertise that are required for an advanced certification can be sent to a certification board
    • A portfolio that demonstrates the competencies you have that qualify you for career advancement or a new position with your current or potential employer
    • A portfolio for your employer’s use in obtaining or maintaining magnet designation
6
How do I create a portfolio?
  • There are three simple steps involved in creating a portfolio:
    • Enter your personal information using the preset forms on the Decision Critical website
    • Upload any documents or images you want to include in a portfolio
    • Select the data that you have entered and uploaded for inclusion as the contents for each portfolio
  • You will see how to do each of these steps in the following sections
